Airbnb : Châteauguay does not currently ban rentals

le vendredi 26 juillet 2024

While Mercier banned Airbnb rentals in April, Châteauguay does not plan to do the same « at the moment. » However, the City « will continue to monitor the situation and may regulate, if necessary, this [ban] within its territory. »

Currently, Châteauguay only requires owners who offer this service « to comply with the Quebec Tourism Accommodation Establishments Act. »

The City mentions that the law applies to both « primary » and « secondary » residences.

The City states that « [the situation with Airbnb] is not a concern in Châteauguay. » There are currently 14 accommodations listed on Airbnb in Châteauguay.

Tania Tremblay, the General Director of Mercier, explained in an interview with the newspaper that the city had « received numerous complaints from citizens regarding various nuisances » caused by Airbnb. That is why the ban on this type of accommodation was implemented.
