On October 16th, the City of Châteauguay adopted a borrowing by-law in the amount of $950,000 to undertake the demolition of the former Shell service station and the De Castris garage. These two properties, acquired by the city in 2022, will be used to realign the Industriel and Saint-Francis boulevards at the entrance to the city.

The money borrowed will be used for demolition work on the buildings, environmental characterisation of the soil, management of contaminated soil and environmental remediation.
The petrol tanks should be removed this fall the buildings are slated for demolition in the spring, announced Mayor Eric Allard at the September municipal council meeting.
In August, the city sold the service station marquee to Goodleaf’s auto parts and recycling in Kahnawake for $5,000.
It had acquired the two properties concerned by mutual agreement for $8.5 million. The project to realign the two boulevards is valued at between $20M and $30M and is part of a plan to make the area denser.
