Residential Work : Water meters installed in exchange for a permit

le mardi 27 juin 2023

Owners of residential buildings in Châteauguay who wish to obtain a permit to build, extend or renovate a kitchen or bathroom will have to agree to install a water meter that will be used solely for statistical purposes, the municipal council announced on Monday, June 12th.

The city is in the process of changing its by-law on permits in order to increase the number of water meters on its territory to the minimum required by the Quebec government of 356 metres by the end of the year.

The aim is to collect data on drinking water consumption. Last year, Châteauguay put out a call for volunteers, then randomly selected 300 homes by sending them a letter, but few have responded positively so far, according to the mayor.
