The Kahnawà:ke Cultural Arts Center building project is spearheaded by a community partnership between the Kanien’kehaka Onkwawenna Raotitiohkwa Language and Cultural Center, Kahnawá:ke Tourism, Turtle Island Theatre and the Mohawk Council of Kahnawá:ke. This community hub will bridge a gap between cultures, fosters mutual respect and understanding, and spark new, lasting relationships with neighbouring communities and beyond.

The Kahnawà:ke Cultural Arts Center will be a state-of-the-art, multipurpose building housing a theatre, museum, tourism kiosk and Kanien’kéha language classrooms. The project is fuelled by commitment to strengthening the identity of the Mohawk Nation, in order to preserve and protect our stories, artifacts and history, and revitalize the Kanien’kéha language while fostering the arts and performing arts.

The building site is approximately 3 acres of forested land off Highway 132, adjacent to the Kahnawake Survival School.

The total project budget comes in at $56 M. The goal of this capital campaign is to raise $16 million toward the overall goal of $56 M and to: solidify community support; develop new, long-term donors for the KOR & Theatre; and attract volunteers, supporters, and visitors. As of now, the capital campaign has raised $9,156,599, around 57.2% of the goal.

Public funding will cover the remainder of the budget. Presently, $11 million has been secured from the Government of Quebec, and $16 million has been committed by Crown-Indigenous relations and Northern Affairs Canada.
